This past week, human resources posted the athletic department work study positions (35 in total). As a result, numerous applications have begun to pour in. After allowing the position on the website for a minimum of two weeks, I will begin reaching out to the students and conducting interviews. The goal is interview students prior to their arrival on campus for two main reasons. First, the department is doing everything possible to limit interactions thus all meeting has been pushed virtually. Second, the schools weight room is set to reopen the first week, with athletics following soon after. At which point all positions need to be filled and operational.
The questionnaire has been strategically designed to help me gather vital information about the students including; class schedules, work experience, other commitments, goals of the experience, and amount of hours they hope to work. These questions will allow me to hire the best fit candidates while also ensuring they are prepared to meet the expectations of the department. Previously, no interviews were conducted, and positions were seemingly filled on a first come first serve basis. I hope to identify better quality candidates through the new, yet simple process.
