Belmont Abbey College is a private Catholic College located just west of Charlotte, North Carolina. The small Division 11 college is home to roughly 1,500 students with nearly 60% of the student population being members of athletic programs.

The school itself holds athletics in high regards to help with the faith and development of young men and women both physically and mentally along with their education and spiritual lives. President William Thierfelder, son of a New York Yankees Vice President, and track Olympian himself, has shown unwavering support to grow the college through athletics with Athletic Director Stephen Miss. Belmont Abbey College now supports 32 varsity programs after its most recent addition of rugby in 2019.

Paul Lyon has 19 years of college athletics experience dating back to the turn of the century. In that time, Paul has served as a compliance officer, assisted in facilities, game management and just about every possible role within a small college athletics department. Lyon is one of the most cool, calm and collected people you will find anywhere. Every conversation and decision is met with compassion and consideration, and he has been an unbelievable person to learn from not only regarding his duties, but also his mannerisms and how to be an effective leader.

The Abbey is home to 32 varsity sports, many of which compete at the NCAA Division 11 level within Conference Carolina's and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
