Today provided me the opportunity to work with Carrie Bailey, the Assistant to the Director of Athletics. Mrs. Bailey is in charge of all documentation and updates that are needed in addition to her role of organizing the A.D's schedule. We met via zoom and went through all areas I had identified that needed updating since the previous publication the year prior. Among many updates were staff and personnel changes along with many new department policies that have arisen. This task although it is tedious and time consuming helped me realize the importance of going through these documents and making sure the correct information is provided to new hires and students. Even though many people do not read through the handbooks unfortunately, they provide an abundance of information, and frequently asked questions from staff. It serves as a one stop shop in most cases for providing accurate information to those requesting it.
In addition to my meeting with Mrs. Bailey, I also have a phone call discussion with the head of Human Resources, Cheryl Trotter. Cheryl discussed the hiring process, and duties that I would be in charge of. Some of these duties include signing off on work study hour logs, ensuring students are not working during class times, and not going over 20 hours per week as the government has allowed. Work study opportunities are a wonderful government paid job for students which gives them supplemental money during college along with job experiences that will be vital in their growth and development as they look to obtain future jobs.
