As a good practice, the Belmont Abbey Athletic Department likes to review all documents every one to two years to ensure all employee and student codes and expectations are up to date. This year, I had the privilege of reading through both documents to ensure their correctness. Luckily after a full year of employment at The Abbey, I have a better understanding of policy and procedure that are in place, and in use.
After dissecting the two documents, there were many items that did need to be updated. Much attention was spent verifying NCAA Division 11 legislation and rules were still up to code and accurately reported within the documents for referencing. As one would expect, these articles had small changes and modifications over the past two years, and required close attention while being updated. In addition to NCAA legislation, a good amount of time was spent updating current job positions, and duties associated to the members. Having an accurate document helps our new employees acquaint themselves to the department quicker, while also providing a good place on where to start when they have questions when checking the job duties. This is important within an athletic department which are known for turnover as employees and coaches move around often. Overall, the opportunity provided me a better understanding as to what appears in these specific documents, and the importance of keeping them up to date in case employees reference them and they are not up to date.
