Today I met with the Coordinator of Compliance, John Fitzgerald one last time prior to the roll out of our new compliance education sessions at the school. The new format includes a pre and post test filled with questions pertaining to specific topics each month in order to educate coaches and administrators on the NCAA compliance handbook/manual. Today is the day of the actual one hour session in which the education will occur. Last night, we sent out the pretest which was on transfers and financial aid. The coaches had 24 hours to complete the quiz prior to the zoom meeting where we would discuss the questions and address them all.

Today, John and I met to discuss the results and set up discussions on addressing the frequently missed questions using google forms. The data showed a snapshot of lots of misconceptions and invalid knowledge which was surprising. Many coaches in fact did not know as much as they thought they did which we found the average score being a 5/8. Granted these questions were small nuances and not common issues that people run into, however they were rules and good to know which got people talking and intrigued. Attached below is a snippet of the data we collected showing each question broken down and how people did. It was very helpful allowing John to focus his discussions on frequently missed questions, and not on the ones that nearly everyone new. This created a better course, and kept people engaged not talking about things they all already knew.

Along with the quiz, we recorded the zoom meeting for coaches who could not attend which was also something new we built in to the course so no one would miss out on the learning and education of NCAA rules. Previously, the session only required one coach per program. I felt that was not acceptable since everyone needs to know and follow the rules in the department. My mentor agreed and allowed us to make it a mandatory meeting for all starting today. It had great success with 45 people participating rather than the usual 15-20. We are very excited at the new format, and it was received well by coaches!
