Day 42-Weekly Staffing

This week, I went ahead and tried to get ahead of staffing due to the number of events this week and weekend. My staff of 30 students is becoming more and more challenging to place weekly do to their growing commitment to class and practices. The students are broken down into various categories.
Training Room Screeners
Coaches Assistants
Game Day Staff
Weight Room Staff
As the events pick up, staffing becomes challenging for a number of reasons. More games mean more gameday staff required, and a need for screeners at the doors. Thus I have had to sit down with the athletic training staff to find more students willing and able to help take temperatures at games and during the day while their staff preps for practice and games. Thirty staff members seem to get spread thin fast with the growing requirements and events on campus which makes staffing more challenging as I now have to message and reach out to students to fill those last few slots for each need. On a positive note, I have begun collaborating with Paul Lyon on the interns that also help out at games. Doing so, we have been able to fill the necessary needs of the department thus far.
One option that may have to happen is the cutting back of staff in the weight room. Currently we are using two people per evening. With the limited numbers, I may have to reduce to one worker and shift the second worker each night into a game day staff role as needed. It is not ideal, but with the upcoming spring sports all options must be considered!
