Today I began a new project for the athletics department. Being in an office with the SID's and marketing coordinator, I constantly hear about the new things going on and how to improve outreach for the department. As a facilities coordinator, I constantly use google maps to view our campus when doing projects and explaining to people where they are.

Thus, the idea came to mind on how we need to build the Belmont Abbey College Google Maps footprint. Currently it only has a few buildings marked on campus, and often times people get lost even though it is such a small campus. I shared the idea with Mr. Lyon, and he has given me the green light to work on getting our athletic fields and facilities "on the map".

As a very low tech person, the project is taking me far outside of my comfort zone, but is truly exciting learning about maps and all that they can do for a business. After extensive research, I have come to realize that I will be working to "verify" our fields and facilities. In order to do so, I will be working with Rolando Rivas the VP of Marketing at the college who has the Google My Business Account (intimidating task). I have reached out and explained the project, and he has given me access to the schools login information.

At this point, I am working on tagging the facilities and getting the verification post cards which take 5-10 days. Once they have come in, I can begin uploading information like hours of operation, images, videos, website links and many additional items. I am extremely excited for the task at hand, and think it will be a big boost in showcasing our campus while also making it more accessible for all our fans and visitors in the future!
