Today, the women's soccer team held an intrasquad scrimmage that the department once again staffed. Unfortunately for today, I was only able to staff 5 student workers instead of the needed 6. As a result, I was thrust into action running the game clock which I had not done before. At this point, I have seen enough soccer to know that there is not much action that takes place in regards to work for the clock, however I did find myself researching and learning small intricacies about the game that pertained to how the time runs.

Women's soccer plays two 45 minute halves with a 15 minute halftime. During the game, the clock runs at almost all times except for a few scenarios. The first and most common time it stops is on every goal. The second is for extreme penalties and injuries. To know when to stop the clock, one must watch for the ref to cross their arms signalling stoppage. In college soccer, their is no additional time (due to stoppage during a game). Overall, it was a simple task, but very valuable by forcing me to study the rules of the game closely and paying attention at all times to see how it differs from MLS and other professional leagues.
