Today was our very first event of the school year. The women's volleyball team squared off with itself in an intrasquad scrimmage in a closed event that was however broadcasted online for friends and family to see. With the game came lots of training with the very young new work study staff. Some of the duties the work studies help us do on volleyball gamedays included stat score sheet, libero tracking, scoreboard, music and public address in addition to ball rolling.

Prior to the game, I spent an hour teaching two students how to do the scoresheet and libero tracking using online tutorials provided by the NCAA. Additionally, I provided them with examples on how to fill out the score sheet for reference at todays game (yes I had to learn myself, as I am not an avid volleyball fan).

After an hour of training, and oversight through out the game, the students did an excellent job. They even signed up to do the next upcoming game excited at the opportunity to get better. Along with the stats and paperwork, we also trained students how to ball roll to speed the game up, and on how to PA on our microphone and mixer. Overall the day was a success, and an eye opener on how much training goes into preparing the student workers for the events.
