With the school year starting in a controlled chaos state, the weight room has officially been approved to open under limited hours and occupancy. For the past three evenings, I have worked on training students an hour prior to their shifts, and then stayed to help implement the rules, expectations and new protocols as our first customers arrived.

I provided each student with the weight room staff guide, to look over as we verbally went through it covering the equipment, how to screen, sanitize and monitor the weight room as it is in use to ensure a healthy and safe environment.

Patrons entered the weight room from an exterior door at which point they were asked to fill out a hold harmless form that the weight room keeps on file for each user. The patron was also checked to make sure their name was on the signup genius form ensuring they met the pre-screening checklist the athletic training staff had conducted, had a mask on, and assigned a rack.

Lifting sessions were 45 minutes in length, and after the 45 minute window ended, workers escorted patrons out, cleaned all equipment used, and prepared for the next wave of users. This occurred in three waves throughout the night.

The training itself went well under my supervision. Students were able to ask questions all evening, help me tweak any protocol that needed attention, and watch me model the expectations that were on their checklist. Students even commented how structured the weight room was in comparison to previous years, and said they enjoyed having guidance. Overall it was a huge success getting each worker trained over the three day period.

Attached is the desk the students check-in patrons, and the facility they help us run.
