With campus back up and running, and a number of positive cases, the worry within athletics is starting to become very real. Positive cases have ramped up the contact tracing needs and requirements on campus to make sure people are not being placed into harms way. Working with our Head Athletic Trainer, who has been thrust into our medical evaluation decision making team, we worked together to decide screening protocols and ways of monitoring students and staff while they are on campus to limit risk for everyone else.

After meeting and discussing for hours, a few protocols were determined.

  1. Students entering the Wheeler Center (athletics hub) would need to pass temp scan below 100

  2. Pass a pulse ox reading above 90

  3. Pass campus clear app (symptom reporting and recording app)

  4. Not be on any quarantine list both county and school wide

Once students could clear all requirements, they would be able to practice, and utilize the weight room (which is why my involvement was included). Thus each day the weight room is open, I will be checking with our head AT Adam Smith for him to check the sign up sheet to ensure no patrons are on the quarantine list, and are cleared to use the space as long as they have been screened prior in the day. The protocol adds additional work for both of us, but it protects and prevents the spread of the dangerous virus which is well worth the head aches!
