Students have officially arrived on campus, and the fun has now begun! With the return of the students, all athletic fields have been professionally lined to begin the year. Moving forward, work study students are utilized to help refresh the lines weekly on 5 fields for 8 separate lines across them all for both men's and women's soccer and lacrosse and field hockey practice and game fields. Each field takes roughly two hours to string and paint when done with care.
Today, I was able to train two students who had signed up for the positions to help the department and their teams out. The meeting gave me the opportunity to teach students how to start the machine, change its spray pressure and width along with daily care of swapping out paint and water to prevent clogging. Students were shown how to do each task, and then asked to perform the duty all on their own with out assistance as I watched. After a few reminders, each student was fully trained, and assigned specific (practice fields) to begin painting allowing for some practice before doing game fields.
Pictured below is our brand new sprayer that was purchased this summer. The department now has two allowing for multiply students to paint during their available times which has not always been the case resulting in a complex painting schedule working around classes, practices, games and worst of all, the weather.
