The number of student workers continues to grow, and I have quickly realized communicating with soon to be 35 students in a timely and efficient manner will be challenging. The previous work study supervisor messaged students via a variety of ways such as email and text however found it difficult trying to keep it all straight. Thus I decided to utilize an app that the athletic department uses for communicating with everyone rather than email which most do not check often.
Slack is a newly created communication platform that works on both the computer and mobile phone allowing for users to choose which they prefer. It acts similar to a group text however it has the capability to have "channels" and "direct messages" allowing anyone on the app to communicate in mass or in small groups such as my game day staff group vs weight room attendants. The site will serve as a way for me to communicate to everyone at once with information pertaining to the rules, regulations, scheduling and any updates that may come along. I have begun adding students and beta testing how they respond to the use of it rather than email and text. Initial thoughts seem to be positive and encouraging! Stephen Miss the AD at Belmont Abbey always puts an emphasis on the importance of over communicating, and with the app at everyone's fingertips, no information should slip through the cracks!
