Day 11 consisted of three more interviews. I am quickly realizing that the more interviews one conducts, the more confident you become in the process. Additionally, I have revised some of my interview questions as I am quickly learning what pertinent information I need to know about each candidate. For example, asking about where the student learned about the position has helped me understand why it is many of the students are applying. In doing so, students have informed me that their friends have recommended working in the weight room because you can sit on your phone and do homework. The newly asked question helped highlight a training and staffing issue that needed to be addressed and changed in the future when I get to the point of training the weight room staff making sure to change the culture and expectations into a hard worker and attentive role rather than one sitting back and doing nothing.
By asking about where students learned about the position, it also showed me who went out searching hard for a job. To my surprise a two candidates today both were sport management majors looking to gain experience in athletics and applied after seeing the position online which was a reassuring feeling that people want to work in these roles rather than just doing them to get paid.
